Mapping Series (2001-2004)

In this series of sculptures, I attempt to map spaces and volumes to explore critically what the geographer Derek Gregory has called “the cartography of objectivism” as it has been applied historically not only to mass and space but also to language and the body (Geographical Imaginations). In this work, the Cartesian grid or some other organizational system is imposed over a form to produce objects that are imperfect, unstable, and inconsistent.
