Detail Series (2004)
Presented in collaboration with Sean Miller’s JOBA project
Inkjet prints
Dimensions variable
This series of prints is composed of details of high-resolution, digitally-scanned words written on paper. Reversing the scale shift of Miller’s portable JOBA gallery space, the work attempts to define ideas by breaking them down spatially into component parts. In this way, the work applies scientific methods to questions properly belonging to the realms of philosophy or linguistics. Through this awkward juxtaposition of method with subject and idea with material, these fragments point to the tension between the notion of singular meaning and its dependence on a collection of multiple gestures.
